It is week one of my blog and I hope I don’t lose your interest right away!
Here we go:
Have you ever been sitting in class, or at work and you mindlessly start biting your nails or playing with your hair? Do stressful situations bring out your bad habits? Does it feel as though you can never get rid of them? That’s how it is for me.
From biting my nails, to playing with my hair, to cracking my fingers, I’ve done it all. What frustrates me most is: I have no idea how some of these habits started. I also have no idea how to stop them. No one ever wonders where bad habits come from; they simply think these minds games are a part of who they are. I do not believe this is the case.
I firmly believe that there is a specific cause and reason for every little thing we do. Whether we are stressed, bored, happy, sad or nervous. This is why I created this blog. Not only because I am forced to in my grade 12 English class, but also because I’d like to know why I do the things that I do.
In my opinion analyzing behaviour is one of the most interesting studies and I would love to attempt this on my own and see what I can come up with. It will be my very own behavioral blog, where I will analyze everyday habits that people develop and find reasons why we do them, where they could possibly originate and how we can stop them.

Until next time!
Hi Lauren,
ReplyDeleteI hear it takes 21 days to break or make a habit. I never tested this to see if this is true or not - I usually catch myself biting my nails then I have to restart all over again and I eventually give up. I guess hat’s another bad habit of mine… Anyway, behavioural analysis is very interesting and I can't wait to learn about what you post next.
DeleteHey Sarah! Interesting that you should mention that, as I was wondering the exact same thing about how long it takes to develop a habit. I heard the same as you: that it takes 21 days. I'm very interested in finding out if that is accurate or not; I can never completely stop my bad habits. I also bite my nails, which is why next week, the first habit I'm going to tackle will be nail biting! Stay tuned!
I know exactly what your talking about ! I never understood why I get so nervous to talk to some people or why people have mood swings. The brain is a very interesting part of the body which to be honest no one could explain its behavior. But learning about others habits could be very interesting! So I think this blog is going to be very useful.... cant wait to read whats next !
ReplyDeleteThis is a very interesting Blog. Never really thought about things like this. One thing i never did was bite my finger nails though. Usually if I'm caught in some type of awkward situation i just go on my phone and just pretend to be texting or anything of that matter.
ReplyDeleteBut one thing I am guilty of is cracking my knuckles. I don't do it as much now.
I'm very excited to learn about our every day habits and why we do it! Keep it up
Funny you should mention that Dallas! I also crack my knuckles way too much and it can't possibly be good for me. I am definitely going to cover that bad habit in my blog. However, I never really thought about the texting habit that you mentioned. I thought that was very interesting and maybe I will do a blog on that one as well! Thank you for the idea.
DeleteThis is a very interesting subject! I am very anxious t. read more about these bad habits. I wonder why we do this things. I know I crack my.neck all the time. I dont know why I do it but I can't stop. I heard you can get artists from doing this, I wonder if that is true?
ReplyDeleteLauren, I am certainly excited to read your blog in the weeks to come. My bad habits drive me insane...in fact, I was just biting my nails as I was reading your blog. Though I find biting my nails and cracking my knuckles absolutely disgusting, I do it mindlessly and just can't seem to stop. I have never really even thought about why I do it though. As you said, most of us just think that's it's who we are and it can't be changed. I'm excited to read about your thoughts on them.
ReplyDeleteThank you for the comment Marissa! It seems as though many of my readers can relate to one bad habit or another. I'm hoping for you all to keep commenting; I have been getting great ideas on the most common habits. I'm planning to use the ones that my readers suffer with most, that way we can all relate to what I'm writing and hopefully we can end these habits once and for all!
DeleteI have such a hard time fighting my bad habbits, your blog is so interesting. Not only because of the elements you have chosen to analyze being everyday habbits, but because I'd really like to know why I bite my nails or always twirl my hair when i wear it down. Very interesting!
ReplyDeleteFascinating topic.
ReplyDeleteFor the life of me, I can't stop biting my pens when I'm writing or marking. I have no idea why I do it or how to stop myself. Hopefully this blog will help save countless pens in the future.
I wasn't planning on exploring pen biting because unfortunately it is not as common and it is very similar to other habits that I will be writing about. I personally believe biting pens is caused by many of the same things that cause nail biting so I reccomend you read that blog! Here is a website you could check out to help stop your habit:
